will be paid out of the third of the crop set apart to the hands. The said Freedmen agree to work faithfully ten hours each day in the summer and nine hours in the winter. The party of the first part is to manage & controll everything and must treat the Colored people with kindness & humanity and the Colored people agree to be respectful and obey all lawful orders. After the crop is gathered and the terms of the above agreement complied with the crop both of corn & cotton shall be divided Two thirds to A L Shotwell & one third to the colored people according to their work, & not by their youth or strength so that any hand will stand upon true merit & industry. No labour will be done on Sundays except the feeding of stock cooking & driving stock out of the fields and such thing as cannot be delayed. An effort will be made to procure a teacher for the instruction of the freedmens children should the parties desire one. An acre of ground will be set apart to each No 1 hand & not so much to indifferent hands & to women, the mules & farming utensils will be loaned them when they are in a condition
