Lowndes Cty Jan 1866

Article of agreement made and entered into between J.W. Norwood of the first part and the undersigned freedman of the second part witnesseth the undersigned freedmen doth pledge themselves to set in on the 1st day of January 1866 to work for said Norwood from that day untill the first day of January 1867 during which [[strikethrough]] time [[/strikethrough]] term of time the said freedman are pledged to perform faithfully any work as the said Norwood shall direct for which said Norwood hereby pledges himself to give them one fourth of the cotton, corn, and fodder they make and save also furnish the working hands with meat and bread as follows; the men 3 1/2 pounds of meat and one peck of meal [[strikethrough]] per [[/strikethrough]] per week, the woman 3 1/2 pounds of meat and one peck of meal per week any working hands who may lose any time from buisiness shall forfeit not less than 50cts. each day or if he or she shall quit or leave he or she shall forfeit his or her entire interest in the crop Said freedman pledges themselves to rise at the first Call and have fires made and feeding done and be at their work before Sunrise and eat their break fast before leaving or take it with them said freedmen pledges themselves to take care of all tools and stock that may be intrusted To their care.
