Mr. Timothy Harrison,
Richmond, Ind.,

Dear Sir:
I know something of the good work your Society is doing in the way of supplying freedmen's Schools with teachers and at the request of General Sprague, Asst. Com. I write you to say there is a pressing demand at this time
for six more teachers for various points in this State. Some of these being wanted for plantation Schools where the teacher would not be a charge to the Society. Healthy, competent women with some experience in teaching are certainly preferred. They should rendezvous here.

Can you not furnish the number named and have them on the ground by the 15th or 20th of next month?

It is the policy of the Bureau of Ref. and Freedmen to encourage the payment of tuition by the freedmen so far as they may be able to pay, but it is not probable that teachers will be able to report an increase of tuition fees till the ensuing autumn.

Hoping you will find it convenient to send help into this field where the harvest is great but the laborers few

I remain,
Yours truly,
Wm M Colby
