dren. Having their families with them they prefer lady teachers and will receive them into their families. Each will become responsible for the personal comfort of the teacher and will guarantee $80.00 per month salary from the freedmen as per our Circular 21. It is safe every way to send three good lady teachers - transportation to the point indicated above.

I can aid the freedmen of Des Arc to some extent in the manner indicated if you will report the number of pupils (Estimated) and the number of teachers, and the name of the Superintendent- or some other person to whom packages can be addressed.

The destitute condition of freed people in the vicinity of the former place renders this change necessary.
