Sir,
Yours of the 10th is at hand and contents noted with pleasure. I rejoice at the prospect, financial and educational, in your vicinity. May your efforts in behalf of the freedmen be crowned with abundant Success.
I take immediate measures to provide you a teacher, but doubt if one reaches your place before sometime in October. I am not yet advised of the plans of the societies for the ensuing year, but it has not been customary to send our teachers before October or November.
Very Respectfully
Wm M. Colby

Dear Sir:
If it be not irregular I would respectfully request transportation for Mr S. F. Witter and Miss Jennie E Bergstresser from Republic, Seneca Co Ohio, to Lewisville Lafayette Co Ark.
I have good reason to believe both these persons to be competent teachers of good character. Their services are needed at Lewisville (where a house is building and an unusual interest awakened among the freedmen) by the middle of September should I refer them to the Educational Societies it would greatly delay their departure and thereby endanger the success of the school. The freedmen own the school site at Lewisville.
Very respectfully
Your Obedient Servant

Sir:
On returning from a two week's absence from the city I find your favors of the 12" & 15th ultimo. In reply I have to say the the goods mentioned have not yet arrived.
As to the time of opening school in this city I would further say the the school should not be discontinued till the last week in June - the latter month being as important as the first two months of the term.
I suggest that one half your teaching force be sent
