Mason and other trustees, enclosing deed, and estimate of repairs on School house at Sunnyside, Chicot Co., and asking that said repairs be made by the Bureau. We have never expended anything in Chicot County which contains a larg colored population. Sir:
I would say in reply to yours of the 25th ultimo, that the requisite conditions having been complied with in Dist. No. 13, Pope Co., the Ass't Commissioner authorized me to say to Mr. Wm. P. Carpenter, the trustee, that when estimates for repairs on the School house are received they will be approved and the repairs authorized. I will add that this is

the only application for aid, with deed accompanying, that has been received at my office from any of the counties named in your letter; but I hope to have an opportunity to act upon similar ones before the conditions on which aid is given are changed, or the proffered aid entirely withheld.
I can visit your district only for some special purpose, and under orders of the Ass't Commissioner.
Very respectfully,
Wm. M. Colby,
