Hughes Rev. Thomas,
Camden Ark.
Dear Sir:

I must heartily approve of the suggestion contained in yours of the 6th just received that another school be established in Camden. If it is established and reported at the end of this month we will afterward pay $10 a month for each of the building to be applied in part payment of teachers' wages. Both schools should be public schools and all teachers have contract with trustee of the district.

Camden is now in Mr. Casey's Dist. and he will hereafter be the proper officer for you to advise with. His address is Arkadelphia Ark.

Very truly yours,
Wm M. Colby,
Asst. Supt. of Schools.

Union, Ark.

Dear Sir:

Before the untimely death of Mr. Simpson Mason Agent of the Freedmen's Bureau for Fulton County some $400. or $500. were appropriated to build or "repair" a freedmen's school house in Franklin Township in that county. As you succeeded Mr. Mason and are no doubt possessed of the facts will you have the kindness to inform me whether a school was established and if not what is the condition of the house at this time.

I write by request of the assistant Commissioner who is desirous of extending all possible school advantages to the colored people.

Very respectfully,
Wm M. Colby
Asst Supt of Schools
