Sir,

I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 7" inst. enclosing rental account for houses in this state where teachers of your Association have taught during the months of April, May, and June 1869. Mr Colby is absent attending the teachers association at Trenton N.J. and in his absence I respectfully

return the said rental with the information that the records of his office show that rent on school houses at Pine Bluff and Fort Smith for April, May, and June 1869, (at Pine Bluff $35.00 & at Ft Smith $25.00 per mo.) has already been paid to Rev J.P. Bardwell, Agent A.M.A.  The other school houses named on the rental account belong to the Bureau. I have sent a copy of your letter to Mr. Colby who expects to visit Chicago on his way back when the matter can probably be arranged.

Your letter asking for a situation in one of the freedmen's schools in Arkansas came to hand yesterday.  Mr Colby is now in Trenton N.J. attending the National Teachers Association.  I should forward him a copy of your letter and the recommendation accompanying it and I think you may expect a prompt answer from him.
