Most of our buildings - twelve in all and located in the larger towns of the State - are occupied by teachers who have been nominated and confirmed by these Societies and are examined, certificated, and paid by the several school districts. This arrangement makes a strong and good combination of school agensies and works extremely well wherever carried out.

The districts then secure a good building free of cost as well as competent teachers, who in addition to their school room duties will also labor for the moral elevation and social improvement of the colored people.

Of course we do not in any case assume any authority whatever in the administration of these public schools - nor do the Societies
