Maj S. N. Clark,
Chicago, Ill.
Dear Sir -
Mr. Martin wrote you last mail that I recommended to close the 15th inst. I had hoped to see the normal school established before leaving, but every body is so slow - I think I could have compassed it before the end of August. Am sorry the Commissioner insists upon giving school houses to freedmens trustees for I am confident it will cause discord & troubles; but I have not been consulted & hence could not express my views. It would seem wiser to retain the buildings for the Bureau of Education. I think the Pine Bluff Board will pay some for your property there.
Very truly yours
W. M. Colby
