Stoughton Nov 20th 1938

Dear Folks 

We have had rain for the ending of the week a very powerful down pour, it filled gutters & drenched the streets & I felt very thankful for a good roof that there was no leak to & the gutters were well cleared, so the rain could pass off without injuring the house inside & out.

Mrs. Bruce the mother came to pay the rent. the young woman was away taking care of her sister's family, while her sister was in the hospital. She was very nasty nice in talking. I told her the young Mrs. Bruce had promised me a five dollar payment on the old bill & she said she would see when she got home & said they had payed for putting in new pipe as the old pipe was clogged up & all that I did was to fix the piazza & put in the hot water tank just before the tornado which latter I paid & told her that & as they hired Deacon unbeknown to me, they can be responsible no law will oblige me to settle a bill like that they very well know. Mrs Barry told her our expenses had been something terrible & she knew that I guess. she
