Dear Folks

This is a dreadful windy & cold day. I have tried to call up Gregory to see if he would come & put on my outside windows, but find that his line is out of order. now I called up again & got him. wonders will never cease.

We were lucky to get Kemptis, he came early yesterday morning & worked all day & brought his dinner we gave him a big junk of cake to eat with his dinner & offered him some hot coffee. he told us our chimney on the main roof was in a bad condition & should be fixed as there was danger of its toppling over in a high wind & that would spoil the roof. about then Carrara came along & Kemptis says here's your man now who can do the job. he said yes I did the other one 22 years ago for Mr Holmes & will do this one & we asked him for how much & he said not over twenty five dollars. then he said I noticed it some time ago, but didnt [[didn't]] want to worry Mrs Holmes knowing the trees worried her enough, so she couldn't sleep nights.
