Stoughton October 29th 1938

Dear Folks,

Our second snow storm was heavier than the first one but came with out wind & also came in the night Sunday morning we woke to find several feet of snow covering the other snow so we had the Leonard boy to dig us out he made two paths & we paid him $5 after it was dug out. we had a better feeling, as it made it possible to give people a chance to come to the house without wading through so much snow. Rideout prophesies the snow will stay on the ground all winter. so judging by that we are to have pretty cold weather from now on.

I hate snow. we may get used to it but guess not it is hard work to clear up things piazzas & door yards. our roof wont worry me Kimptis has fixed it so the snow wont fill the gutters & freeze in so we'll have to thaw it out to keep it from leaking in to our rooms, he was the one we got to thaw us out, the coldest day one winter. it took two tanks of hot water to do the job, Mrs. Ausborne was here then, so after then I dreaded snow storms. but now I noticed he didn't leave the gutters open in the wing of the house a good thing. they learn new things from experience you see.
