the house was unharmed, but their beautiful shade trees were tourn [[torn]] up by the tornado & destroyed terribly. 

he said Walpole had beautiful trees but now they are mostly destroyed. streets were full of fallen trees. 

he wanted to know if those great oaks were blown down in his old home here by the tornado. Phoebie Hill was here last Sunday & she said they were all right. Wallace says he has two first cousins still living, one is my self & the other is Mary May. aunt Sarahs [[Sarah's]] daughter. she is 89 years old & enjoys pretty good health. he is 81 years old & wants me to write to him. as we grow older we prize the friends who we used to know, if they are still living. 

The town is making us a new concrete side walk between George McGarveys & past Petes. W.P.A workers & I wish you might see them, they dont work half the time we are paying such folks for doing nothing. I have been sewing on your cloth this past week & next week shall probably cut out the little dresses. my sewing machine will do most of the work. 

We called up Lena & find she is all right but hates to climb this hill. she had been away. but didnt [[didn't]] say where. she never tells her business. why should she? the neighbors know ones affairs more than we do. hope you are all right & enjoy this kind of weather. Ma
