the poor man has been so unlucky we hope he meets with better success in the future. the Darlings are going to get out soon we hear.

Most of the people are home from the shore & schools have begun. it seems quiet not to see them on the street or hear them at play. even Jackie came through clear up to the house & looked in to the window to see if he could see Doris the day she went. I went down to the grove where they dug out their stones to see if there was any thing left & brought home our pick axe & locked it up in the little building for safe keeping.

It is real fall weather now one needs warmer clothing to keep comfortable. my corsets are the proper things this weather. & dresses with longer sleeves I dread to see thing go by & leaves fall from the trees. but thats [[that's]] the change we have to expect. so make the best of life & call it good.

I want to see Anna & talk things over with her. she is good to come up when I feel lonesome she is that way always since Mort died but bears up wonderfully under her heavy burden. hope you are getting rested after your trying summer (vacation) & the rest keep on gaming

Ma
