The Ballentines are going on their vacation they have hired a cottage at the shore for Gertrude has a vacation & they all go but so far the weather has been such there has been but few days fit for going any where, much less to the shore, home to me would seem prefferable.

I hope she has it pleasant for her trip going north she may get out of this torrential down pour its something dreadful. the sun yesterday seemed good but to day its cloudy & theres a new moon to night so I hope we have seen the last of our storm, I have managed to dry my last weeks clothes by the aid of my kitchen fire.

Alice seem glad to be here & feels it a change from Matties dull old house. she is now sweeping the kitchen floor & wants to be remembered to Doris, she does not seem quite so sad over Franks death but cries whenever she mentions his name. she had him buried in her lot here at Stoughton.
