there are several others here in town who patronize him. he tries hard enough to get some custom. we go with him to get jobs. he carries samples always.

Alice seemed glad to see me. she is looking better than she did the last time I saw her. hope she gets the old age pension. she didn't see Gladys the last time & did'nt know they had taken the trip to Vermont. 

Matty looks old & feeble, she & Alice gets along there all right, one is as neat as the other I guess. two of the same kind perhaps.

Theres one things about it we have very few mosquitoes this summer they dont seem to come for some reason or another. hope they continue to be scarce we can do without them.

I forgot to say that Doris poetry was cute, she still loves fishes. we had clam chowder which tasted the best to me [[strikethrough]] than [[/strikethrough]] of anything I had eaten for a long time.
 
Lena spoke of John Hollis starting right away for Germany with others who got high marks. he will go north this colony & be protected it is hoped. she says that Theodore looks dreadfully thin & guess his wifes death took hold of him pretty bad. he will have the whole responsibility now of bringing up the two children. Ma.
