General,
I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of Com. of T. Harrison, relating to the Union school building at Little Rock, and endorsed at the office of the Commissioner with the enquiry if there is any valid objections to the transfer of said building at this time to the Friends. In reply I remark that the movement for the transfer of this building at this time having been instigated by by parties in this city for sinister ends, the question presents itself not as an independent question but as a pivotal one. It is believed therefore that the transfer could not be made at this time without having a demoralizing effect upon the school interests of the city and state. I might go into details but it is not deemed needed any as this general statement covers the whole ground and expresses the views entertained by the State Sept. of Pub. Instr. as well as myself. I respectfully request that the transfer be deferred till the close of the current school year.
Very Resp'y Yours,
Wm M. Colby, Supt. Ed.
I fully approve the above with the remark that the facts warrant a much stronger statement.
(signed) Thomas Smith
Supt Pub Inst. for Ark

Tip: please re-read what you have typed.99% of it makes perfect sense so if your transcription makes no sense, you have mis-typed something. This is my first time transcribing for the Smithsonian. I am not familiar with the abbreviations in front of the names, so those need a thorough review. Thanks
