Washington March 25th, 1870.  Respectfully referred to Hon S.W. Mallory State Senator 20th Dist. Arkansas whose attention is invited to endorsement of Supt. Colby here on. It is very desirable that the amount requested from the Bureau in aid of the maintain within mentioned normal school be at least duplicated by State or county aid.

Pine Bluff Ark. Apr. 8, 1870  Respectfully returned to Genl. Henry M. Whittelsey A.A.A. General Washington D. C.  There is no law at present authorizing the State or County to aid the school in the manner indicated, but in conference with my colleague Hon. O. P. Snyder we have agreed to use our utmost exertions at the at the ensuing Session of the General Assembly to secure the passage of a law authorizing such aid. We feel confident that success will answer our efforts
