I will confess that I was somewhat discouraged when I wrote to Gen Sprague, but at present the condition of things seems to assume a much more favorable aspect. 
It is time that the State of Mo has a loyal Gov and Legislature which is all very well but the Radicalism of Southwest Mo does not lead the citizens to favor the elevation of the freedmen as those who are interested in trying to elevate them but the majority look upon us as being almost beyond the reach of redemption in consequence of our having engaged in so degrading an enterprise.
We still have a large family of colored Orphans but have secured homes for several and hope to be so fortunate as to secure places for the others soon as providing for them adds much to our care and anxiety.
Our Agent has recently visited us and it did do us good to meet with some one who could sympathize with us and whose heart was in the work. I will send you one of our reports for last month which will show you the condition of the school at that time.
