Washington October 13th 1866.

To Superintendent Education
State of Arkansas.

Dear Sir, Gen. Howard directs me to say that your educational Report, which should be made promptly each month, is specially desired at this time.
Will you please gather all the general information as to education during the summer vacation; also, the prevailing sentiment as to schools among the Freedmen; together with the statistics (as per Blanks sent you) to November 1st, and forward the same as soon as possible.
It is indispensable to the completeness of the Commissioner's' Annual Report to Congress that all the data be here by 10th of November.

I have the honor to be,
Yours, etc.
Very Respectfully,
J.W. Alvord
