I have had a meeting of Some of the leading colored citizens in relation to School matters, and I found at that meeting there was a difference between the members of the two churches here. viz the African M.E. Church, and the 1st. Baptist Church.  The Baptists will not have anything to do with Members of the other Church, and will not Join in any movement for the elevation of the race, Schools or otherwise, if they know any other Church Members are interested.  Not a Single Baptist was present at the meeting.  I am afraid a great

deal of this is due to the Pastor of the Baptist Church Mr. White who is a man with a little learning which is a dangerous thing at times.  I do think it would be to the interest of the Bureau and of the Freedmen if the Rev.d Mr. Colby could find time to pay us a short visit and hold a meeting for the purpose of stimulating the Freedmen in school matters.  If I could know in time that Mr. Colby would come & when I could have a large gathering of members of both Churches to hear him speak.
