Mr Gautt who was previously Sup't &c at this place, informs me that Gen'l Howard, told him at Washington D.C. that the sum of 2000 dollars had been appropriated for the  support of a school, in this town. I would like very much to be thoroughly informed with regard to such donations.
 
If proper Teachers could be employed (colored ones would be preferable) for a commencement to teach the elementary branches, if such could be induced to come here, they would find it profitable to them; The colored children here could learn rapidly, as they are all eager for an opportunity, to get to school. I am perfectly satisfied that every colored person who [[strikethrough]] have [[/strikethrough]] has children would by all means, have them to attend & educated as far as possible. I would also urge that schools and plantations, be encouraged, they would tend rapidly, to the improvement of the minds of the colored children. On these plantations are numbers of children whose parents are employed ; on the place and it is impracticable to send them off any distance to be instructed.
