I have the honor to furnish for your information, the following extract from the report of Lt. A.S. Dyer, Supt at Jacksonport, Ark. for the month of November.
"No schools are under headway in this country. Repeated endeavors have been made to enlist the sympathies and interests of the freedmen in that direction but owing to nearly all having interests in the crops of this year, or personally interested in the prospect, until they ascertain it will draw on their earnings to support a teacher, the school does not meet with success. The great drawback is the lack of school accommodations; no house suitable for that purpose can be had. Those who are working cannot find leisure to assist
