Dear Sir

Your letter of the 7th ult to Miss Henderson has been turned over to me, as a person who has been somewhat interested in the welfare of the colored race, to answer.

In reply I would state that one half acre of land has been promised to us, within the village limits; and to which a deed will be made at any time. I am very anxious something should be done for this class, and am willing to give what time I can spare freely for their benefit. Before the war the negroes owned a church, (a small frame building) now in the possession of Col M LaRue Harrison, who tells me that he will pay the value of it over to any responsible party or parties that may be authorized to receive. Who or where are the trustees I have not as yet been able to find out. The building is so situated that it could not now very well be used for a church & it would be better to receive the money for it if possible. Please inform me in what amount you can assist us; what will be necessary for us to do; and any advice in regard to the matter that may help us.

Very Respy
William Story
