Louiseville, March, 9, 1867
Mrs Colby and Sir
I safely landed at this point this morning and find Mrs Colby much interested in the work of Freedmen's schools. Major Burton has just left the office.  There was no stages running from Washington here; [?] [?] provided me a house with an orderly to escort me here.  He has to return immediately so that I have not time to detail the interesting statement furnished me by Misses Cole and Burton. I purpose to visit [cross-out] this [\cross-out] some plantations about here, and will give you particulars in a few days. May Cole has a [?][?] of II names, amounting to $40 [?] by freedman for a school teacher in [?] but they have no building. I will write you at the earliest opportunity in which I can give you the information [?].
