I have the honor herewith to transmit monthly reports for the month of April of the schools under my charge, Hoping that any errors I may have committed in this (my first) report will be kindly corrected and the necessary instruction furnished, to enable me to report correctly in the future. The difficulties I had to encounter in the beginning have been overcome in a great degree and I am confident of success. Gradually the predudices of the white population are giving way and I trust ere long with a returning sense of reason they will aid in promoting the educational interests of the whole people without distinction. The Freedmen are orderly and quiet, and the children learn rapidly, and with few exceptions take great interest in their studies. Having a very large day school, I had thought I would not form any night school the present term, but there are so many who can not attend during the day and they seem so anxious to learn that I concluded to teach them
