Bureau of refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands,
For the State of Arkansas
Office of Superintendent of Education,
Little Rock, Ark., May 14,1867.

Maj. Wm. J. Dawes,
Agt. Bu. R.F. & A.L.
Pine Bluff, Ark. -

Sir:
I have the honor to call your attention to the matter of school accommodations on the Cockrill place. Will you have the kindness to inquire by whose authority our teacher there has been deprived of the building occupied for school purposes last year, which I have been informed is the property of the Bureau, and similar in size and structure to the one Mr. Byers caused to be removed to the city of Pine Bluff. I am credibly informed that the health of the teachers there is in jeopardy from daily exposure to sun and storm.
Possibly Mr. Byers could give information in regard to the history and tenure of the building.
Very Respectfully Yours,
Wm. M. Colby
Supt. Education for Ark. -
