I am well pleased with the way school has opened — and I think the term will be a successful one. I find the new house very convenient, except the seats they are too close together and the most of them are too low to be comfortable.

Major Thibaut has placed the collection of fees in the hands of the trustees. Blanks have been printed and before entering school each pupil is required to get a certificate from them that he or she is entitled to a seat in the Academy. This is quite satisfactory to me as it relieves me of all responsibility in the matter & I have only to look to the Treasurer for pay.

If the Association would sustain a teacher at this place & the Freedmen one, we could soon have a school rivaling that of the whites.
