Hon Wm. M. Colby

Dear Sir

I have the honor to inform you that the exercises of the Lincoln Academy are progressing finely with an average weekly attendance of fifty six. I have nothing further of importance to communicate in regard to the school. Upon my objection Major Thibaut has refused to let the house be used for any except school purposes. The house had been somewhat damaged and the desks left too dirty & muddy to sit in. Some little feeling was felt among the colored people in account of my bringing the matter before the Major & his action in regard to it but I believe it has passed off & they agree we were right. I endorse every step Major Thibaut has taken in relation to the School and desire in this connection to testify to my high appreciation of the interest he has taken and his prompt action whenever his assistance was needed.

I have not heard from the Association yet but am expecting word every day. Hoping to hear from you shortly

I Remain yours truly
David C Casey
