Arrived here in safety yesterday about 2 PM, visited Mr Casey's school, much pleased with the order, and method of teaching.

There are some things different about the house, contrary to my expectation.

For instance the weather hoarding is of undressed material, and unpainted.  I thought that the house was to be painted.  Otherwise the house is well finished.

I spoke at Arkadelphia, and visited Mr Hare's school he is somewhat discouraged, but I talked sharply but judiciously to the Freedmen there urging them till my return to work, or I would close their school &c.

I think that hereafter they will exhibit more life.  I shall start for
