Sir:

I have been unable to learn of the existence of any Schools for Colored Children in this County.

On the "Jourdon Plantation", alone, there are some Sixty odd children between the ages of six and twenty one years, besides several adults both male and female, who would be glad to attend if an opportunity offered; and I believe that a school could be maintained here without expense to the Government, excepting perhaps the necessary Books and Stationery, and one, too, that would sufficiently remunerate a good teacher.

The Colored people here are extremely anxious to have a school established, and seem to be thoroughly awakened to the immense importance
