Dear Sir:
A man told us yesterday, that he met Mr Purdy, who was sent to Camden at Cairo, and didn't like his manner. He wanted to borrow money &c. As we are in no wise responsible for his finances, I write to request
1. That you will prevent his borrowing money on our a/c as we shall honor no drafts for him.
2. That if he shows any signs of moral unfitness for his work, You will oblige us by dealing with him summarily and requesting us to Cashier him. He brought us the most Excellent testimonials: but so did two others who turned out badly.
We shall make short work with new cases of this kind.
Poor human nature!
                   Very Truly Yours,
                     JR Shipherd. Sec'y.
