Arkadelphia.
Jan 22nd. 1868.

W.M. Colby Esq.
Supt. Ed. State of Ark.

My dear Sir,
I am in receipt of your circular Letter of the 13th inst. relating to the Vanguard of Freedom Manual which I have received with your letter. The establishment of such a society in my school is, however, impractible at present, there being so few boys attending. But believing that the forms and operations of the Vanguard of Freedom as inculcated in the Manual would be very beneficial to my male Pupils I shall endeavor when the school is increased to form a society.
I had four new scholars yesterday and I hope to have a steady increase in the attendance until Summer. You will probably be not a little surprised though I know you will be glad to hear that I have been licensed by the Meth. E. Church South
