the work, therefore if you wish to see both sides of a freedmens teacher's life you can read this letter, as I intend to give you the bright side, which I have found notwithstanding  the dark surroundings, I am becoming more arid more interested every day, and I think the interest of the colored people is as great as ever, which is more than I expected when I first came here, because from my limited knowledge of them I judged them to be  immotional [[emotional]] and fickle as a race,
But they are cooperating nobly, aiding in support as far as they are able, my school is prospering  beyond my expectations, never had a white school do better, not as many in attendance this month as usual however not out for want of interest, I think I may safely say that with one year more of good thorough teaching the colored school would compare favorably with the white
