& about - He is now nearly in a starving condition - I have assisted him all I feel able to, & unless through your assistance you could increase the appropriation I'm afraid I will be compelled to raise a subscription to enable him to go to his home - I do not think he can look to the freedmen for scarcely anything - for they will all soon be occupied with other affairs & forget all about the school - This is my opinion I may be mistaken - I think to make the thing a success requires a much younger & more active man than Mr Roberts, although as he says he may be fully competent to learn them the rudiments of a primary school - The boy that attends to the stage when it comes in found in it at its last arrival a bundle of Mitchells outline maps with no direction upon them whatever - not knowing but that you might have sent them I speak to you in regard to them,

JL Moore -
