I was not discouraged, believing all would be for the best, Judge Coulter did not return home for three days, he greeted me very kindly.
says, he regrets exceedingly that a school cannot be started here now, but assures me that a house will be built next summer and ready for a school. The cotton crop failed last season, therefore the inhabitants both white & black feel very poor.
Judge Coulter's son was married last Dec, his plantation is 12 miles from here & rented to a cousin, by the name of Sims.
It is decided that I teach on this plantation. A house is now in progress and will be completed as soon as possible. Mr Sims intends to send for me this week.
