of the country have informed me that as soon as the school is in operation they will send their children here during 6 months in the year.
Had the freedmen been successful with their crops last year, they would have been able to have built a good house without the assistance of the Government. As it is they will not be able this year to do more than pay a teacher.
The white citizens here without an exception have expressed a desire to have the school established.
The Government can certainly do nothing for them that will benefit them more.
