Rocky Comfort Ark.
March 28th, 1868

Mr. Wm M. Colby
Supt of Education B.R.F.&A.L.
Little Rock Ark.:

Sir,

Your letter of the 24th of Feb. was delayed for a long time on account of high water, but in compliance therewith I have the honor to forward herewith a copy of school contract made on the Hawkins Plantation w/ P.J. Andrews. As soon as I go to Brownstown I will forward the other and if there be any fears that teachers will not get their pay I will stand good for it myself and make good just what I represent.

I do not think it advisable to send any more here just now as the freedmen have been deluded by a certain Col S. Scott into the idea that these schools are free and that the government pays the teachers, also that the state will soon furnish them free schools and every person or family will only have to pay one dollar a year for their family's schooling, and they are so set in that opinion that it is best to let them try it.

I am Very Respectfully
