Your favor of the 13th reached me yesterday, The book you Sent came safely, please accept my warmest thanks for this kind remembrance. I should have written you ere this, but so much unfinished work has occupied my time that I almost shrink from the task of replying to the correspondence now on my table unanswered. The high waters have delayed the mails and for some days we have been shut out from the rest of the world and left in ignorance of the events transpiring elsewhere. The election passed off very quietly in this County and the vote is very close the Democrats claim a majority of twenty eight of the military polls. We pulled over one hundred more votes at the civil than we did at the Military polls. The contest was very exciting and each party put forth all its exertions, had we had the right men for Registers we would have carried the County by nearly two hundred. The attendance this month in school is about sixty five, most of them prompt and obedient. We have seventy four on
