Wm M. Colby
Supt. of Education
Little Rock Ark.

Sir, I have just returned from a visit to Mrs. Stewart's school at Brownstown or near there at White Cliffs. She is succeeding finely and the utmost good feeling and willingness prevail among the freedmen to pay their tuition. I inclose herewith a copy of the Contract, there are none but what are good for their schooling. Mrs Stewart has the original copy of the contract.
There has been no Scott nor Hazledine to pander with the freedmen on the Coulter and Sims Plantation against their interests.
I am Very Respectfully
Your Obt. Servt.
