permanent school and one of higher order. With your permission I would suggest if an appropriation be made that the contract specify that the building, if of wood be all pine, except floors & frame. There are one or two parties here who would like to build the house, but they are of that class, who would deem green oak, cotton wood and gum, good enough for a "nigger school house." I think they deserve the best, the very best. They have had the worst, the very worst for generations past, and now, since by the blessing of God they have come into the promised land, I want them furnished every possible facility to enjoy it, and show the noble manhood there is in their race. It is there, and you and I, it is to be hoped, will live to see it universally acknowledged. May I hear from you soon?
