Dear Sir,
Permit me to inquire if you can furnish employment in the Bureau department of Arkansas for a gentleman of first class abilities, a scholar and a minister of the first standing in the Presbyterian Church. If you can furnish such an one with a commission a teacher similar to that which I hold from the Government of the United States you will not only confer a personal favor upon me, but will tend greatly to add to the efficiency of your department as well as promote the education civilization and Christianization of the freedmen for whom you so efficiently and continuously
