Office Circuit Superintendent of Public Instruction

[[strikethrough]] Dardenelle [[/strikethrough]] Little Rock, Ark., Jan. 25th 1869

Prof. W. M. Colby,

Sir,
Having learned that you have in your district as Superintendent of Education Bu. R F and A.L. the counties of Conway, Perry, Yell, Pope Johnson and Franklin, I would respectfully request, and if not improper urge you to visit those counties, with a view to definite and immediate action in the building of school houses and the opening of schools at an early day among the freedmen.

I can safely say that this is one of the most opportune moments for labor in this direction with an assurance of success that has been since the surrender.

In all of these counties the freedmen have secured land and are only waiting for a leader to direct, and plan for them.

Should you think favorably of this proposition, I will render you all the assistance in my power. I am anxious to have the work pushed forward while the people are in a working spirit.

Very Respectfully,
W. A. Stuart
Cir. Supt. 6" Dist.
