Camden Jan 30th, 69

Mr. W.M. Colby,

Dear Sir,
The most grievous thing that I have met with here, among the Freedmen, is Intemperance or disturbs divine services, in the Sabbaths, and my peace of mind. Sometimes even, fighting occurs upon the threshold of the House of God! Have commenced the Temperance Reform in my school and have succeeded in getting some of the the worst characters to sign the pledge. Shall muster all my force to meet this foe, soliciting your counsel and advice.

Yours of the 26th is rec'd.
