it would be better than their company, on that occasion they (the White-folks) have not only shown no sort of interest in the work, but turn up their miserable noses at it. Whereat I pray the Lord to let them turn up their noses, and keep them turned up till it is revealed to them, as it soon will be, that the colored man is not only their equal in moral and intellectual worth, but in many instances their superior.  
I have given the colored people notice this  afternoon through the school, that you will address them at their schoolhouse before long. They will give you a heavy welcome in which I will cordially join and will even say something on the occasion, if any balky tongue don’t go back on me
