Bureau Refugees, freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
OFFICE SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION,
FOR THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI,
Vicksburg, Miss., April 8th 1869.

Wm W. Colby
Asst Supt of Schools

Dear Sir
Yours of the 1st is received - I have had notice from but two teachers (Miss Clark at Helena, & Lyman, at Ft Smith) that they have made contracts with the Trustees of their Districts.

If you can aid in securing contracts for the others, you will aid us. If you will fill out a sett of vouchers for Rent of School house, as your D.O. requires them to be made out, & send to me, I will sign & return them

Please send me some blank vouchers also, for the purpose. All our vouchers here are printed for Mississippi. From what time will Gen Smith allow us Rent for the two School houses named?

Have you a teacher yet at Van Buren?

Very Truly Yours
