WAR DEPARTMENT,
BUREAU OF REFUGEES, FREEDMEN, AND ABANDONED LANDS,
OFFICE GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT SCHOOLS.

(Circular Letter)

Washington, D.C., May 24th, 1869.

It is the desire of the Commissioner that Superintendents of schools hereafter use great care in preparing and forwarding reports. Accuracy will be required especially in all statistics. The number enrolled per last report as given from month to month should be made to correspond with the figures on file in this office. Numbers as presented in narrative statements should also be the same as those given in tabular reports. Correct footings are equally necessary. Inaccuracies in any of these respects will necessitate the immediate return of reports for correction. Attention is likewise directed to note on blank, requiring returns as soon as possible
