When you was here last spring I had no doubt we would have a colored school in operation in this place long before this  The difficulty in the way of getting suitable funds to repair the house already put up was the fact that the colored people had no title to their land  I then went to work to try and get the colored people to raise the money to pay for the lots holding out to them the inducement of the assistance promised from the Bureau.

Failing in that I circulated a paper and raised enough to pay for the lots by the white citizens of the town and notified Mr B.D. Williams the agent of the proprietors that I was ready to pay whenever a deed was made  This was some three months ago and although he has had ample opportunity and has been urged again and again to make
