Magnolia Columbia County
Arks. 29th Septr. 1869.
Mr Wm M Colby
Supr Intdt Education

Enclosed herewith you have our Teachers monthly report for July, of the first School for Freedmen Opened in this County. his report is entirely Correct, except in regard to "Public Sentiment" which is quite the reverse of the Teachers Opinion- Mr. McWhorter is altogether a stranger in the Community and has so discreetly demeaned himself, by Strict attention to his own business, that he has not had opportunity to learn the true "Public Sentiment" which only tolerates colored schools as a matter of policy-to keep "laborers in the field"

The School is Sustained by Taxation under the provisions of the late School Law of the State and will continue three & a half months from Commencement.- The Freedmen Contemplate the Continuance of the School with the present Teacher, but I doubt their ability to remunerate him.

Please Send Some blanks for reports, it is not the Teachers fault that his first report was so long delayed. I had neglected to punish him the blank.- I will render any Aid I can in Sustaining the School-

Very Respectfully RB Archer
Trustee.
